Hand carved Malachite. Made from natural malachite, azurite and chrysocolla. This piece is sensational. This lovely buffalo will make a great accompaniment to your collection.
The stone's name is from the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb. It was used as a mineral pigment in green paints from antiquity until about 1800. Often resulting from weathering of copper ores it’s often found together with azurite, goethite, and calcite. Malachite is more common than azurite and is extensively mined at King Solomon's Mines. 3.5 to 4 Moh’s hardness.
What a special way to recall the beauty of the Black Hills, Custer State Park and the Buffalo.
